Questions and answers

Plain answers to the questions growing companies ask about ongoing legal support and fixed-fee work.

Who is Covrig Counsel for?

The core fit is a post-revenue or funded fintech, payments, digital-asset infrastructure or selected B2B technology company with recurring English corporate and commercial legal work.

Do you replace our law firm?

We can manage day-to-day legal work and coordinate a defined specialist workstream alongside your existing advisers. Each adviser’s responsibility, scope and fee should be clear. Major transactions and other specialist services are separately agreed.

How much does ongoing support cost?

Legal Foundations is £2,500 per month with 18 Tokens per service quarter; Outsourced Legal Function is £4,500 with 36; Embedded Legal Function is £9,000 with 75. Your own three-month service quarters and monthly billing begin on your agreed service-start date. The full quarterly allowance is available upfront. Fees exclude VAT where applicable. There is no separate setup fee; onboarding uses an agreed portion of the first quarter’s Tokens. Unused Tokens expire at quarter-end. See the full plan coverage.

What are Tokens?

Tokens make substantive work capacity visible. They reflect expected effort, complexity and process burden, not an entitlement to a fixed number of hours. The monthly fee also covers the continuing legal-function service. Try the Token calculator.

What happens if we need more work than our plan includes?

We know that not all months are equal. Your Tokens are pooled across a three-month service period, with the full allowance available from the start, so a busier month can draw on capacity from a quieter one. Unused Tokens expire at quarter-end. If the allowance is still not sufficient, we first discuss reprioritisation. If additional capacity or a separate project is appropriate, you receive a quotation and nothing extra is charged without approval.

Do short questions use my Token allowance?

Brief in-scope questions answered from existing knowledge, without substantive review or research, ordinarily do not. Related small questions may be treated as one matter.

Can you help with regulatory questions?

Yes. We help identify the regulatory issues affecting a business decision and discuss the practical implications. Our Fintech & Digital Assets Regulatory Risk Review assesses one product or business model against the relevant UK framework and provides a practical red-flag and boundary memo from £2,000 excluding VAT. We can agree a separate scope for more detailed advice and bring in additional expertise where the subject or jurisdiction requires it. Authorisation applications and token-launch execution are not standard plan work.

Does the website chatbot provide legal advice?

Our AI assistant is coming soon. It is not currently available and will not replace legal advice. For now, please email us or book a meeting.

How does legal AI feature in your work?

We use suitable legal AI tools to accelerate research, drafting and comparison. Greater efficiency means more legal work is covered within predictable fees, giving you more value from your legal spend. A qualified lawyer checks substantive outputs and remains responsible for advice and follow-through. Our use of legal AI is subject to confidentiality and data-protection requirements. Before including client information, we assess the tool’s data-handling terms and use appropriate privacy, security and access settings.

How do we start?

Get in touch about the work you need covered. We recommend a plan and agree the monthly fee and how onboarding fits into your first month before work begins.

Our professional obligations

How your legal work is regulated, what protections apply and how to raise a concern.

Who would be responsible for our legal work?

Your legal work would be led by an SRA-regulated solicitor of England and Wales. They remain bound by professional duties, including confidentiality, independence and managing conflicts of interest. We identify the solicitor responsible for your matter before work begins.

What does it mean that Covrig Counsel Ltd is not SRA-authorised?

The solicitor is individually regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; Covrig Counsel Ltd is not an SRA-authorised law firm. We provide non-reserved legal services, including legal advice, contract drafting and negotiation.

The SRA’s compulsory minimum insurance arrangements do not apply. The SRA Compensation Fund, which may assist eligible clients in certain cases of dishonesty or failure to account for money, is not available for work through Covrig Counsel. We explain the applicable protections before accepting instructions.

What are reserved legal activities, and can you help if we need them?

These are activities that require specific authorisation or an applicable exemption. We do not carry them out through Covrig Counsel. Examples include conducting court litigation, certain conveyancing work and preparing papers for a grant of probate.

If your matter requires a reserved activity, we will explain this and refer that work to an appropriately authorised provider. This does not prevent us from providing the non-reserved advice, drafting and negotiation described on our service pages.

Do you hold professional indemnity insurance?

Covrig Counsel Ltd holds professional indemnity insurance covering the legal services we provide, with cover of £1 million for each and every claim, subject to the policy’s terms, exclusions and limits. As we are not an SRA-authorised law firm, we are not required to maintain insurance meeting the SRA’s minimum terms and conditions. Further information about the scope of our cover is available on request.

What if we are unhappy with the service or charges?

Please email legal@covrigcounsel.co.uk, explaining your concerns and what you would like us to do. We handle complaints promptly and fairly.

We acknowledge complaints within five business days and aim to provide a written outcome within 28 days. If more time is needed, we explain why and keep you updated. We aim to complete the process within eight weeks.

Can we take a complaint to the Legal Ombudsman?

Eligible clients may be able to refer a complaint about the solicitor’s service after our final response or once eight weeks have passed. Eligibility includes individuals and qualifying micro-enterprises; not every business qualifies. The Ombudsman’s time limits also apply.
